May 23 is World Turtle Day and dedicated to learning more and encouraging the respect and care for turtles. This awareness day was started by American Tortoise Rescue (ATR), which is an animal rescue organization located in California. 

5月23日是世界乌龟日，这个日子的设定，是为了致力于鼓励人们学习更多与乌龟有关的知识，并鼓励大家尊重和关心乌龟。这个提高人们意识的日子是由美国加利福尼亚州的动物救援机构——美国乌龟救援组织(American Tortoise Rescue)发起的。

Turtle vs Tortoise

两个单词都表示“乌龟”，有什么不同呢？

Both a turtle and a tortoise are reptiles of the same animal family. 

"turtle"和"tortoise"同样来自于一个爬行动物家族。

 

A turtle mostly lives in the water. Their shell is usually smoother. Some have webbed feet or fins instead of feet like a sea turtle. 

"Turtle"大多生活在水里。 他们的外壳通常更平滑。有些乌龟像海龟一样有脚蹼，而不是脚。

 

A tortoise mostly lives on land and has short feet with bent legs. A tortoise prefers to live on land and some live in hot dry habitats.
